My first ring

one-of-a-kind

This is the very first silver piece I ever made, though I probably only did about 30% of it myself 😅

At the time, back in 2017, I knew almost nothing about silversmithing and joined a private workshop in Bali, very much like the ones I now hold in Lisbon. My tutor, a Balinese jeweler, used old-school tools, which was fascinating, but my design was far too ambitious.

He helped me assemble tiny pieces of wire into the bird shape from my logo (yes, I had it long before becoming a silversmith) and did all the tricky soldering with a petrol pump torch.

Even then, he taught me the importance of patience and of personalizing each student’s experience as much as possible 🙏
A few years later, I lost that ring, and since then I’ve wanted to recreate it from scratch - this time 100% by myself. It will never be the same, but it will be even better!

Stay tuned for my new blog posts here about the unique pieces I made on my jeweler's path since then. Follow me on Insta @materialmaya to not miss anything.

This piece is in ~Best from past~ section: - unique jewelry pieces I once made, still love and want to remember, some I won't repeat and some I would do by very special request only
